A Walk In The Clouds At 14,300 Ft.
Forty one junior school boys along with Mr.P.Chaturvedi, Headmaster, Mrs.J.Chaturvedi, Mr.Ankur Bhatt, Mr.R.Gosain, Mr.P.Sharma and Mr.R.Alfred embarked on yet another unforgettable outdoor trip to the mountains that beckon young kids every year to explore them and scramble over them yet adore them and revere them. This time the first destination was Auli via Devprayag and Rudraprayag, the confluences of tributaries of majestic Ganga.
We set out as the school closed for the summer break on May 3, 2008 away from the oppressive heat of Rajasthan to cool mountains first by train and then by bus.
On the first day after checking into the Clifftop resort at Auli the boys went for a scramble up the nearby hill just to open up the joints after long bus rides.
The next day was the main climb to the Gorsan meadow and top thereafter overlooking Auli and Joshimath. We started quite early in the morning which is a safe bet in the hills if you want to avoid the afternoon showers. It was a challenging climb for most but all managed to accomplish the goal with sheer grit and vigour. There the boys had this rare opportunity of feeling the wondrous flora of the mountains replete with golden oaks, pink and red rhododendrons, wild lilies and myriad other wild flowers that make a thick carpet over the lush slopes.
The next destination was Badrinath via Tapovan where we passed the hot sulpher water springs on our way to a hydro electric plant constructed by Mr.Rajesh Nagrath, father of Ashray. He kindly took the boys to the blasting site and gave them a lot of valuable information on power generation and their plans of a dam.
We reached Badrinath in the evening and checked into a guest house to prepare for the final trek to Vasudhara. It was pretty cold there with light showers; the doors to the shrine were to open the next day. The next morning we rose early and took a bus ride to Mana, the last village at the Indo Tibet border and form then set off to a gradual trek of about 6 km to Vasudhara fall at a height of 14300 ft. The weather was cold and windy and the snow was still melting in patches. To the credit of these young spirited boys, each one reached the objective well within time and in high spirit displaying a lot of character which trekking is all about, to instill guts, gumption, confidence and fortitude unrestrained. We made it back in time just before the usual afternoon showers with bright celebratory smiles on the faces for having achieved something of value.
Up next on the action packed itinerary was river rafting from Shivpuri doing five interesting rapids up to Ramjhula. This ride was just right for unwinding and washing away all fatigue of the journey. They splashed and rowed, giggled and frolicked uncontrollably.
On our way to Delhi we visited Crystal Water Park on Haridwar-Delhi highway for some more amusement and this time all broke loose on the thrilling rides and winding chutes leading to little pools. Everyone enjoyed the place thoroughly for over two hours till dinner at the same place before boarding the buses back to Delhi. It was truly a fabulous trip for everyone alike and each individual will vouch for it. The images and memories create a fond album in the heart to cherish forever.
